Your Assessment Process
Our assessment process is designed to gather a comprehensive picture of each patient or resident as an individual — their history, their needs, their strengths and their personal circumstances, so that care and treatment can be tailored appropriately from the outset. We treat every person as a whole individual, not simply as a diagnosis.

Every individual is different
We start from the principle that every individual is different and every patient deserves a personalised approach. Our guiding aim is to improve each patient’s quality of life, informed by a comprehensive and holistic assessment of their mental health, physical health and security needs.
Across St Magnus and St Martha’s, our clinical care teams are led by consultant psychiatrists with specialist expertise in both forensic and older-age psychiatry, ensuring that assessment, treatment and future care planning are informed by the highest level of clinical knowledge and experience.
“Every behaviour means something; our job is to understand that and offer tailored support.”
Nurse, St Magnus Community
Caring for physical as well as mental health needs
What I like most is being able to bring a smile to people’s faces!
Social Worker at St Martha’s
Although our primary focus is older adults with mental health conditions, The St Magnus Community is equally equipped to address the physical health needs that frequently accompany the ageing process, including concurrent physical health problems and progressive degenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
Our multidisciplinary teams bring together a wide range of specialist expertise, including psychiatrists trained in older-age, forensic and general psychiatry, GP services provided by Swan Medical Group, registered mental health and general nurses, associate nurses, support workers, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and music, drama, art, physiotherapy and dietary specialists.
Housekeeping and catering teams play an equally valued role in the wellbeing of every patient and resident, maintaining high standards of environment and serving fresh, nutritious meals every day.
