St Magnus Hospital
& St Magnus Nursing
St Martha’s
We are compassionate, nurturing and centred around the holistic needs of each individual cared for in our two hospitals and two nursing units
In beautiful surroundings, set either in acres of National Trust or New Forest woodland, we offer sunlit rooms, joyful décor, vibrant gardens and an array of activities to increase mental and physical wellbeing. We actively encourage important relationships with family, carers and friends, and involve patients and carers in planning treatment whenever possible.
We have low secure units, high support wards and GP-led nursing units for patients and residents who are usually over 65 and require specialised care.
The St Magnus Community stands out because everyone is incredibly caring and professional. It is brilliant to see the bonds built between staff and our patients and residents, and it is such a welcoming community to join.
Exceptional team
From leaders with decades of experience to our newest recruits, we have assembled an exceptional team. From our psychiatrists and nurses to our therapists and chefs, each plays a vital part in the wellbeing of our patients and residents.
In our hospitals we care for patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 whose severe mental illness is actively managed; care is led by consultant psychiatrists.
In our nursing units care is essentially in the community, managed by GP and nursing staff with expertise from visiting psychiatrists; our residents’ mental illness is a chronic, stable condition.
Our proactive clinical governance team makes sure we are at the forefront of all NHS changes.

Our Community's Care Quality
Care Quality Commission report
People and their relatives told us they felt the service was safe. Staff knew how to protect people from abuse and neglect. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People, their relatives and representatives were involved in care reviews, asked for feedback and engaged in the service.
“We all support each other, otherwise we would not be a good team. I feel comfortable to share with the whole management team. I feel valued and appreciated in the work I do. I get positive feedback on the work I do and also by the general staff team.”
