Oldercare (Haslemere) Ltd – incorporating St Magnus Nursing and St Magnus Hospital, based in Haslemere, Surrey, are currently looking to recruit enthusiastic, dedicated and caring support workers who have an interest in working within mental health services.
St Magnus Hospital are seeking to recruit an Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Under the direction and guidance of the lead occupational therapist to assist with functional assessment and continue with therapeutic meaningful activities, using creative skills to plan and facilitate a range of activity groups and 1:1 session for the patients.
- To meet with all new admissions, discuss their interests and hobbies, and complete an interest checklist for patients. Working with patients to plan their goals, helping them with exercise programmes, and using appropriate equipment.
- Work closely with nursing staff to facilitate meaningful activities in both 1:1 and group sessions.
- Under the direction and guidance of the lead occupational therapist develop and deliver personal activity plans for all patients.
- To help occupational therapists in evaluating patients’ physical and mental abilities. To gather patient information, document their observations, and conduct specific tests to assess the patient’s condition and progress.
- To assist the occupational therapist in assessing appropriate client-centred adaptive equipment for patient equipment, making sure it remains fit for purpose and safe for the patient, and reporting all damage or issues to the occupational therapist.
- To observe patients during each session and write notes on the Carenotes system, following the note writing procedures to provide as much detail about the individual as possible.
- To report any issues or concerns you have with the individual patient to the nurse in charge, occupational therapists and on Carenotes.
- To closely record the treatments for patients, often coordinating occupational therapy with other types of therapeutic activities within a hospital.
- To work directly with patients to carry out therapeutic activities and exercises designed by occupational therapists. These activities can include physical exercises, task simulations, or cognitive-behavioural exercises to improve daily living skills and independence.
- Work with individual patients to understand their meaningful activities and plan how to facilitate them within their current environment.
- To work as a team member, making suggestions for new activities.
- Ensure all equipment used in activities is returned and report anything missing to the occupational therapist.
- To ensure that therapy equipment is in good working condition and maintain a safe and organized therapeutic environment. This includes setting up and cleaning equipment, preparing treatment areas, and ensuring that materials and supplies are available for therapy sessions.
- Responsible for tracking patients’ progress and documenting their improvement or any setbacks. Maintain detailed records and report changes to the occupational therapist to adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Monitor all equipment, making sure it remains fit for purpose and is undamaged. Report all damage or issues to the occupational therapists.
- To understand therapeutic boundaries and the importance of maintaining these consistently.
- To demonstrate excellent interpersonal, observational, and listening skills, which are essential for evaluating the physical, mental, and emotional needs of individual patients.

Salary: £12.00 per hour
Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week
