St Magnus Nursing Units
Our three units are West Wing, East Wing and Courtyard, each providing compassionate, structured care if you have dementia and/or enduring mental health problems. The focus in each is nurturing, person-centred care for your physical and mental health needs.
You will be able to take part in an array of activities and enjoying the lovely plants and fresh air of our gardens. Our amazing staff help you maintain as much independence as possible in a managed setting that is respectful of your personal needs and interests.

Courtyard Unit
Courtyard is a specialist unit for men, helping you move to a more independent form of living as you develop skills such as looking after your room and cooking. Although this is a locked facility, our model is more aligned to a care home than a hospital.

East Wing
East Wing is a safe, caring place for men with moderate to severe forms of dementia. We can provide high levels of nursing interventions coupled with an approach that puts encompassing, homely care at its very heart.
West Wing
West Wing welcomes men and women, with a mixed unit as well as a women-only unit. You will benefit from high levels of supervision and support to treat your mental health problems, which may include early stages of dementia.
Spacious Rooms
All bedrooms at St Magnus are single occupancy with an en-suite bathroom, a relaxing armchair or two and plenty of cupboard space. Your room will be bright, light, spacious and can be personalised with your own bedding and pictures. You will have privacy and dignity, as well as the reassurance that you can keep your personal belongings safe.

The Outdoors
Our enclosed wildlife garden can be enjoyed by all patients following a risk assessment, with a landscaped area, nature trails and plenty of well-kept lawns and trees. We’ve designed it specially so you can wander freely with little intervention from our staff. Smell the flowers, stroll on the lawns and watch birds nesting! The Nursing Unit also has its own large enclosed garden with seating, as well as raised beds for gardening groups.
Ensure Your Safety
All bedrooms have special fob access so only you and staff can enter. Staffing levels and skill mix on each ward are planned, implemented and reviewed to keep you safe at all times. All patients have up-to-date risk assessments linked to their care plans. We rarely use rapid tranquilisation and prefer verbal de-escalation skills to manage distress without additional medication.
Professional Team
Our staff include mental health and general nurses, GPs from the Swan Medical Group, activities coordinators, senior support and support workers. Together they make up the nurse-led team helping you gain health and make progress.
