Life at St Magnus Hospital
What will you do at St Magnus?
You have a timetabled day with activities to suit your needs and plans for moving on. You are encouraged to look after your own self-care, but when you need support and supervision we are there to assist and encourage you! We offer you many varied activities including breakfast clubs, gardening groups, café meetings and a host of games facilitated by our enthusiastic activity coordinators and occupational therapy staff.
Facilities at St Magnus Hospital
At St Magnus we’ve done everything we can to create a welcoming environment with facilities to improve your quality of life, promote your independence and give you a sense of achievement. We realise your care may not have gone as well as planned previously, and you may not have been able to go home from hospital. We help you get the most out of your life, whether that’s here in the hospital or getting you ready for discharge.
There are areas where you can relax, communal space for socialising and a fully equipped gym for exercise. Environments have been designed to cater for specific needs, and what sets our hospitals apart from others is that we meet robust safety standards while still creating a homely place to live.
There’s nothing like this. This is a wonderful place.

Activities at St Magnus Hospital
We run an exciting programme of activities, which change frequently as we bring in new ideas and cater to the interests of our patients. Recent examples include Tai Chi, yoga and farmyard pet therapy. If there is something you’d like to try, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
Cookery
Group and 1:1 sessions to show you how to cook a nutritious meal and try new dishes. Preparing ingredients, seeing your recipe come together then savouring the tasty result is hugely rewarding.
Pampering
Hair washes, hand massages and haircuts from our visiting hairdressers will boost your sense of wellbeing.
Computer sessions
Helping you learn to use a computer or refine your skills. Our friendly tutors will take you step by step through the most useful programmes to build your confidence and give you pride in your new achievements.
Café
Listen to music and relax off the wards. Enjoy coffee and cake, hum along to favourite tunes and socialise with your St Magnus neighbours.
Visiting entertainment
We also have visiting entertainment such as brass bands and a mobile animal farm, bringing joyful variety into life at St Magnus.
Therapies at St Magnus
At St Magnus we treat the whole person. You could be planting vegetable seeds with one of our occupational therapists, learning to express difficult emotions with our dramatherapist, working through stress with a psychologist or building up a conversation with our speech and language therapist.
My job is amazing! I’m helping patients improve their ability to perform activities of daily living. We explore meaningful therapeutic activities tailored to each individual, no matter how different their values and interests are. I’m making a difference every day.
